The Montana Peregrin Institute is a conservation organization led by an environmental activist and biologist by the name of Jay Sumner based in Arlee, Montana. Jay has been committed to the protection and collaboration of birds of prey for over 70 years. Nearly 40 years ago peregrine falcons faced near extinction due to the widespread use of the insecticide DDT. Taking action he was responsible for the recovery efforts in Montana and stepped into the national spotlight due to his work. Now at the age of 86, Jay still works with his birds every day as a committed falconer. While working on this story he spoke about his love for the interspecies collaboration that has and still occurs. Although a little slower in his step his passion for falconry and this incredible animal has yet to slow.
